Mount Fiji is the highest mountain in Japan with 3776 meters. Even though it is dormant volcano it has been worshipped as a sacred mountain. It most recently erupted in 1708. it is located on the border between Yamanasi and Shinzuoka Prefectures. It can be seen from Tokyo and also from Yokohama on clear days. It is very easy to view Mount Fiji from the train on a trip from Tokyo to Osaka.

If you take the shinkansen from Tokyo in direction of Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, the most excellent vision of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed in the region of Shin-Fuji Station on the right hand side of the train, about 40 to 45 minutes after leaving Tokyo. Snow-covered silence in winter, vitality and energy in summer, these seasonal changes glorify this national treasure. The clouds and poor visibility block the view of Mount Fiji.
You are very lucky if you get a clear view of Mount Fiji. You can have a better view during colder seasons than in summer and also in early morning and late evening hours. Mount Fuji is officially open for climbing during July and August via several routes. Mt. Fuji is relatively easy to climb for most people, but because of the high altitude, it is best to be well prepared. My suggestion is to wear comfortable shoes and bring extra layers of clothing for sudden climate changes. Also taking rest at steady intervals as you climb.

If you are interested in experiencing this great beauty of Mount Fiji you can better Fiji five lakes in the northern region. I will tell more things about five lakes in future posts.
